History:
Konark Bhagabati Mahavidyalaya, Konark, established in 1978, is one of the reputed institutions of higher education in the coastal belt of Puri district, Odisha. Located amidst the rich cultural and spiritual surroundings of Konark, near the world-renowned Sun Temple, the sacred Maa Bhagabati Temple, and the tranquil Chandrabhaga Beach, the college has been a guiding center of learning and enlightenment for the youth of this region for over four decades.
The college was founded with the noble vision of providing access to higher education for rural and semi-urban students of Konark and its adjoining areas. It was established in the name of Maa Bhagabati, the presiding deity of Konark, whose blessings symbolize knowledge, strength, and prosperity. Inspired by the divine grace of the Goddess, the institution has always been dedicated to spreading the light of education and moral values among young learners.
In its early years, the college started with the +2 Arts stream, later expanding its academic programmes to include +3 Degree Courses in Arts and Science under the affiliation of Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. Over the years, Konark Bhagabati Mahavidyalaya has grown steadily, earning recognition for its disciplined academic environment, sincere faculty members, and consistent performance of students in university examinations.
Situated in a serene and culturally vibrant locality, the college provides an ideal atmosphere for academic pursuit and personality development. Apart from classroom teaching, it encourages students to participate actively in NCC, NSS, Youth Red Cross, and various literary, cultural, and social service activities. These initiatives have helped students develop leadership qualities, social awareness, and a sense of responsibility towards the nation.
Although the institution presently offers education at the +2 and +3 levels and does not yet have postgraduate or research programmes, it continues to strengthen its infrastructure, teaching quality, and learning resources. The dedicated faculty members of the college have played a vital role in maintaining a balance between tradition and modernity, ensuring that students receive holistic education rooted in values.
Looking forward, Konark Bhagabati Mahavidyalaya envisions further growth in academic excellence and community engagement. Upholding the ideals of Maa Bhagabati, the college strives to promote knowledge, discipline, and devotion — shaping the youth to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world while preserving the cultural and moral heritage of Odisha.
